IN MY FATHER WORDS...THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE

The love of my life, my partner for over 40 years is in a little trouble. It seems an old foe, or better put, an old enemy has come to call on her again after 19 years of nearly perfect health. Cancer, a disease that seems to choose without discrimination, logic or reason; whether the recipient is an inherently good or bad person, rich or poor, lives a healthy lifestyle, eats wholesome foods, exercises regularly, believes in a higher power or perhaps indulges in none of these factors, appears to be of no correlation to one another.

A NOTE FROM NATHAN TO MOM

I've been thinking about my mom everyday...every morning when I wake up, when I'm making my first morning coffee, driving to work, walking out to the shop to talk to dad about some job, eating my lunch, driving home again, kissing the girls and tucking them in for the night.  Then, I wait for sleep to take over.

WOW!, a lot has happened since the genetic testing almost 2 weeks ago. Mom set up an appointment for a second opinion with her original surgeon from 19 years ago for Tuesday of this week, 9/13/11.

HOLDING PATTERN

Ok, so we're in a little bit of a "holding pattern" since Mom's last Dr. appointment. On 9/1/11, we went into Lahey Clinic to "get schooled" in genetic testing & learn all about the BRCA1 & BRCA2 genes & what those tiny little genes are capable of, if they are mutated.

THE FIRST STEP

After 18 and a half years of being cancer free, Carol ("Mom" to me) has been diagnosed with breast cancer once again. I, her daughter Amy, am writing this blog to document my mom's battle against cancer, so that loved ones can follow her steps through this journey.
